The Lou McGlothian Memorial Scholarship (LMMS) is a lasting tribute to the life, service, and legacy of LouVenice “Lou” McGlothian, a devoted member of The Business Council, Inc. (TBC) family. Established in 2009 by The Business Council and its member organizations, the scholarship honors Lou’s 14 years of dedicated service as TBC’s administrative professional.

Throughout her time at TBC, Lou played a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission, operations, and outreach—helping to build a stronger, more connected business community. Beyond her professional contributions, Lou was known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. She opened her heart—and her home—to numerous foster children over the years, embodying a spirit of compassion and service that continues to inspire.

Each year, the Lou McGlothian Memorial Scholarship is awarded to at least one ethnically diverse college junior, senior, or graduate student who meets the scholarship’s eligibility criteria. This opportunity is more than financial support; it is a recognition of promise, perseverance, and purpose.

We are proud to announce the 2025 recipients of the Lou McGlothian Scholarship, an award created to honor the enduring legacy of LouVenice “Lou” McGlothian and her years of service to The Business Council, Inc.

Each year, this scholarship recognizes outstanding ethnically diverse students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. This year’s recipients exemplify the values Lou lived by—dedication, compassion, and the courage to uplift others.

Maya Reed

Maya Reed

Mount Mary University

Maya Reed is a Senior at Mount Mary University. A native of Chicago, Illinois, she is majoring in User Experience (UX) Design and minoring in Digital Marketing. Maya seeks to to improve the quality of experiences by listening to users’ wants and needs. She wants a future where people can feel more confident, comfortable, and connected to the world she would design for them. Her career goal is to create products and services that go beyond functionality but are also accessible, safe, and bring belonging. She looks forward to being the thinker, designer and creative all at once. She is the President of the Black Student Union at Mount Mary and maintains a strong 3.25 GPA.

Annelise Casanas

Annelise Casanas

Mount Mary University

Annelise Casanas is a Junior at Mount Mary University. A native of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, she is pursuing a degree in Business Analytics with a minor in Mathematics. With a 3.48 GPA, Annelise works several jobs throughout the summer to afford tuition and also serves as a Resident Assistant in the dormitory at Mount Mary. Annelise’s goal is to help people understand the different pathways they can pursue to earn a livable wage and reach their goals. Annelise credits a neighbor, affectionately known as Ms. B., for helping her to understand her potential with these wise words, “I believe you can do anything you set your mind to, not like everyone else, but in your own ways.”
